Omul (11) lives with his family on a remote island in the Fire Archipelago. During a beach trip, a storm sweeps Omul and his younger sister Kimi into the sea, where Omul witnesses a mysterious creature threatening Kimi’s soul. Rescued by a whale, the siblings survive, but Kimi is left in a coma. Omul’s ability to talk to animals becomes crucial as he and his brother – who blames him for the accident – set out to find Sadumea, the mythical figure behind Kimi’s torment. With their dog Tela, they embark on a dangerous expedition deep into the island to save Kimi.

Three men are reunited after 30 years by the echoes of a terrible crime. Old men now, and at the end of the line they are intrigued to meet a young girl named Sarah. Through her they are plunged back into the sordid (and hilarious) belly of Australia's underworld, both past and present.

THE EDGE OF THE WORLD gives a unique insight into the work of Tim Winton, one of Australia’s finest authors. On 17 May 1931, the young director Mário Peixoto released his masterpiece "Limite" in a premiere in Capitólio Theater in Rio de Janeiro to astonished audiences bewildered by the impressive and poetic images. Considered by many viewers the best Brazilian movie ever made, this feature has never been released commercially. However, in a great paradox, Mário Peixoto has never made any other movie. The director Sérgio Machado pays a great tribute to the life and work Mário Peixoto a.k.a. Maçarico by his close friends with this documentary, using his diary; footages of "Limite", the never concluded "Onde a Terra Acaba" (1933) and the short "O Homem do Morcego" (1980); and interesting testimonies of Olga Breno, Ruy Solberg, Nelson Pereira dos Santos and Walter Salles among others.

The plot is based on genuine events: a tendency to abandon subversive activities and surrender of one of the leaders of the Ukrainian counter-revolutionary underground, coroner general Y. Tyutyunnik. The young Chekist Sashko Kovalchuk infiltrates the Kiev counter-revolutionary underground.
